Description
After the Match by A. Banner, an oil painting 1883
A delightful study of a bygone age. An idyllic country scene with two girls playing the background by a lawn tennis court, whilst the mother adorned in a full dress, bustle and hat, holding a Victorian racket is in conversation with her husband. Smoking a pipe, sitting on a fallen tree branch He is dressed in long white trousers, white tennis shirt, boater, and tennis shoes. The painting is distinctly signed to the lower right corner. The canvas has the title date and name of the artist written in script to the reverse. The frame is original as is the slip case. Alfred Banner painted in oils and exhibited between 1882 and 1911. Lawn tennis paintings of any age are extremely hard to find and as a result rare. The painting measures 25 x 21cms and the frame 46 x 41cms and is in very good condition.
