The Slazanger Demon Fishtail Lawn Tennis Racket c1900
This early English lawn tennis racket by Slazenger and Sons bears the demon trademark to the convex wedge throat piece – a fictitious creature’s head with text “The Demon”, trade mark. Slazenger and Sons in gold script appear below. Next to the wedge screw is the number 11, the weight in ounces. The head is straight with no warp and to the bottom are linen shoulders. The gut strings have two beaks. The handle with deep ventilation grooves tapers down to the fishtail handle. The fishtail has some wear commensurate with age. A good example of an early racket.
